Games like Cave Story, Undertale, Retro City Rampage, Shovel Knight, Sonic Mania and Stardew Valley are fantastic examples of retro done right. They really capture the spirit of the 8-bit and 16-bit days but with contemporary gameplay.It also helps that they're really well-made, have bags of content and most importantly are fun to play.I wouldn't dismiss the retro stuff but there is a lot of dross out there too. Maybe dip your toe with some of the better-known retro indie games out there and see how you feel. There are some great indie games like Cave Story, Shovel Knight, Blaster Master Zero along with the NeoGeo titles and I bought quite a few early on (Cave Story is more recent though).

I think like a lot of things it's finding that balance. I love my retro indie games but I couldn't just play them 24/7 and nothing else. I've always mixed my playtime between them and the bigger, more modern games.Some of my favourite games over last gen and this are indie games. Papers please, hotline miami, super meatboy, Isaac, salt and sanctuary, limbo, inside are some of many that I adore but they all have a time and a place.A lot of those games suit the handheld type format so I'm glad more are appearing on the switch. These days I quite often just have half an hour spare so such a game is perfect for me.
Is anyone playing Puzzle Adventure Blockle? It's a decent (but very strange ) little puzzle game, but I've come to a puzzle that I believe is impossible to 100%. The level is called Spark Factory 8. I've been on this puzzle over an hour (most levels take a few mins to figure out) and can't see how you can fully complete it.
