My InterpretationThe Perfectionist is about a man, who as the song suggests, is obsessed with planning and perfection in everything. Generally the one thing a person cannot control is their own death and demise. The Perfectionist decides he is going to invite his friends to a grand celebration where he wows them with great food and conversation.
At the end of the meal he will serve them a poisoned wine. His idea is that now that they have experienced his idea of 'perfection' in the form of a fantastic meal and celebration, they can go to their graves with the best impression of him and he no longer has to worry about how they will perceive him.
